For a lot of local businesses, the Google Business Profile is the first thing a customer sees, before the website, before the phone call. It’s free, it’s powerful, and it’s very often out of date. Here are five checks that take less than an hour.
1. Your hours
Wrong hours cost you customers twice: once when they turn up to a closed door, and again when they leave a review about it. Check your regular hours and add special hours for holidays.
2. Your categories
Your primary category tells Google what you are. Pick the most specific one that fits, then add secondary categories for the other things you genuinely do.
3. Your photos
Real photos of your shopfront, your team and your work help people recognise you and trust you. Swap stock images for your own, and add a few new ones every so often.
4. Your reviews
Reply to reviews, good and bad. Keep replies short, polite and specific. People reading reviews pay as much attention to how you respond as to what the reviewer said.
5. Your contact details everywhere else
Make sure your name, address and phone number match on your website, your social pages and the directories you’re listed in. Small differences, like an old phone number on one site, confuse customers.
Is your business on Info Directory?
Listings on Info Directory link to your website, phone and map, and show your Google rating when you have a profile. If you’d like to be listed, or want to update an existing listing, get in touch through our Contact Us page. Marketing agencies can also find themselves listed under Advertising and Marketing.
